3rd Summer School on Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals
23-28 June 2008, IIPM Gurgaon


- Petrotech Society organized the 13th Academia Industry Meet in the form of a 6 days residential programme on the theme “Petroleum Refining & Petrochemicals” held at IndianOil Institute of Petroleum Management” (IIPM), Gurgaon from 23rd-28th June 2008.
- The six days seminar was inaugurated by Mr V C Agrawal, Director (HR), IOCL and Mr R Rajamani, Managing Director, MRPL delivered the Keynote Address. While inaugurating the Summer School Mr Agrawal applauded the endeavour of Petrotech and IOCL in brining together the ‘Gurus’ from the academia and the ‘Managers’ from the industry to share their knowledge and experience.
- The topics covered during the Summer School were basically crude availability and the need of refining sour crudes. Keeping in view their ever increasing costs emphasis were laid on crude distillation, optimization, process fundamentals, simulation and optimization, Catalytic Reforming-Process, FCC, RFCC, petrochemicals, Hydroprocessing Catalyst, Catalyst for Petrochemical Processes, Lube Base Stocks, Thermal Cracking Process, HSE, Metal Failure and alternate energy sources and fuels.
- The participants were taken on a one day tour to IOCL-Panipat Refinery where working of the refinery and petrochemicals complex was explained in detail.
- Mr Subir Raha, Executive Vice Chairman, Hinduja Group and former CMD, ONGC was the Guest Speaker over dinner on the 2nd day and enlighten the participants with his analysis of the Petroleum Scenario in India and the world.
- The summer school was attended by 46 participants out of which 27 were lecturer/ professors from 18 technical institute/ universities and 19 Practicing Managers from downstream industry organizations.
- The 6 days summer school was highly appreciated by all the participants in as much that they wanted the same to be held every 6 months.
- The valedictory Session was Chaired and addressed by Mr Anand Kumar, Director (R&D), IOCL
